CHAPTER

De Novo Design and Protein Structure Prediction

directed evolution is very powerful if you have a protein that already exists in nature and you want to develop a function which is related to that then you can start with that. But directed evolution can't build new functions from scratch so your solutions are of necessity also going to resemble the solutions that nature has found. The design problem is for example you know inhibit this protein that is involved in cancer and so there you come up with it you design on the computer a shape that will fit into and block the protein that you're trying to inhibit. For a couple of decades you developed Rosetta and now Rosetta fold how do these technologies fit into this protein engineering effort?
