setting is very important in a Marple story. Christie situates her characters in places that often have the whiff of oldie England, country houses, vicarages and of course villages. Having lived all of her life in a small village she had a certain knowledge of human nature. What Miss Marple says about St Mary Mead is that every vice as well as every virtue exists in every village. That people aren't different just because they're in a big city or a small village.
