The two really critical things are the SQL behavior and the open standard. The first thing is really just the semantics and the capabilities in terms of correctness. You want multiple writers to be able to touch the table at the same time without corrupting people that are reading the table or corrupting one another. And then sort of building on that, we also wanted a declarative approach. Like tell the table what you want and have those engines figure out how to do it.

Cloud data warehouses have unlocked a massive amount of innovation and investment in data applications, but they are still inherently limiting. Because of their complete ownership of your data they constrain the possibilities of what data you can store and how it can be used.
