Do You Recognize People's Smells?
A recent study found that people may have a tendency to make friends with people who have a similar body odor. It's an evolutionary thing that's very much in line with how other animals use their noses just in a subtle way. Inbal Riv-Ribby hypothesized that when we subconsciously sniff ourselves or others, we might be making subliminal comparisons and then gravitate towards people who smell as similar to our own. She recruited same-sex, non-romantic pairs of friends whose friendships came together rapidly but organically.
