Why Pigs Wallow in Mud
Sous domesticus, the common domestic pig, wallows in mud. The behavior has been observed to correlate somewhat with temperature. On hot days, it's normal for a pig to keep 50 to 75% of its body surface covered in mud. Pigs are often seen scratching off coats of dried mud from trees or other objects.
