Dr. Brennan: Social anxiety disorder is the third largest psychological disorder next to depression and alcoholism. About 7% of the population has it on more than mild basis, Dr. Brennan says. You can't self-diagnose and know for sure that you have a social anxiety disorder unless you speak to a professional or get an assessment from your doctor. "It's normal to have certain things that you're feeling anxiety about," but not all are socially anxious in the same way, he says.
