The Free Will Show

CHAPTER

Is Free Will Incompatible With Determinism?

Libertarianism is usually defined as making two claims. One is that free will is incompatible with determinism, and the second is that we do sometimes act freely. Sois take first claim first. When i think about freedom, i think of moral responsibility. This in the sense of free will, is something like the strongest control condition necessary for moral responsibility. And so libertarians contend that the kind of freedom required for being morally responsible is incompatible with determinism yet does not prevent us from acting freely.
