Can there be any place for Catholic theology or of Christian theology more generally within the secular modern university? The first question that I asked has its remote origins in the Kantian critique of metaphysics and approximately you might say it's characterized by the famous 20th century debate between Barth and Chivara. And today we might ask can we realistically hope for a newl of a classical synthesis of faith and reason if we are bound to do that by making use of the traditional terms of classical metaphysics.
