The Off-Licence in Australia
Charlie would walk home via the off-licence in his village. An off-licences is a small shop that looks like a news agent, but just sells alcohol. Nowadays, small supermarkets sell a good variety of alcohol in the UK. This contrasts with Australia as they have peculiar alcohol licensing laws. So nearly all supermarkets can't sell alcohol in Australia and therefore the off- Licence or bottle shop - if you're a bit 'bogan' It's a necessity to have a bottle shop on the high street in Australia,. less so nowadays in England you can go to your local supermarket.
