Why We Need All This Extra Power and Complexity

The question that I'm asking myself and that's probably a topic for discussion for another day is okay we're getting all this extra power and the complexity that comes along with it but do we actually need it. Most web developers are pretty much writing the same web applications that you know we were writing 10 years ago so the question then becomes why do weactually need all this extrapower and complexity? We still will need to know some of these things in order to understand how they're working and where the where the edges are. It's fun because our generation was raised on home improvement and Tim the toolman Taylor who said more power.
