California condors are among the most closely managered animals on the planets. A captive breeding programme based in san diego has been an astonishing success. But a geneticist noticed that two condors were not born through any sort of union with the male. This is called parthagenesis, which comes from the greek word virgin birth. It raises questions about whether we would see this more often in the wild.
