I Don't Want Everything Over Compressed, Which Can Sound So Aweful

I don't want everything over compressed, which can sound so awful. And i use ribbon mikes on my vocal. I mean, hear stuff coming out of nashville and t just, it's like every instrument has to sound so pristine that there's no life to it any more. The way records are made, mostly, not all of them, but a lot of records sound like that. Now, you know, there's nothing to grab your nsion almost. It's those little transient sounds that actually, i think grab your attention.
