With the release of Steamboat Willie back in 1972, Walt Disney began what was known as the Golden Age of Animated Films. The very first movie to ever use 3D CGI in film was Future World in 1976. With the advent of optical sound, the aspect ratio was adjusted to 1.37 to one. This is known as the Academy ratio and it was officially approved by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science in 1932.
