Clive Barwell was caught after police matched his fingerprints with a shoplifting offence committed back in 1982. Rosmo calculated a geographical profile using RIGEL and highlighted two areas, including the Milgarve and Killingbeck districts. After 940 hours of manually sifting through more than 7,000 prints, a specialist arrived at just one name: Clive Barwell. In October 1999, 42-year-old Barwell appeared at T-Side Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to three rapes, one attempted murder, four kidnapping,. One serious sexual assault, one indecent assault, and one assault occasioning actually bodily harm.
