When Marcus demanded that Lucius be made emperor in 161, he also arranged for his adopted brother to marry his second daughter, Lucilla. But when 164 proved to be a quiet one, arrangements were made for Lucius to meet up with the Imperial entourage at Ephesus where the marriage would take place. The year's relative inactivity though did provide the Imperial clan an opportunity to further cement their internal alliances. When 165 opened though, the time for posturing was over and the Romans launched a two-pronged assault into Parthian-held territory.
