The Importance of Neutrality in a Relationship
There's no reason to think of it as just a monologue. Her feelings would have been the same for her whole life. She could have had they could have had falling outs and then getting back together or different. And I feel like as well that she has a lot of incentive to be neutral, at least on the outside to project neutrality. So this is kind of comes back to the beginning quote where Barristan thinks that this rivalry played a big role. Or if not caused it, which we know he's exaggerating, but it's not a completely made up lie either.
