The Mismatching Effect of Race in College

Sally Kohn: I know that you have done a lot of work in the mismatching effect. Yeah, along a lot of different dimensions including like the formation of cross-racial friendships and such. One of those papers there which I think is particularly interesting is that if you look at students coming out of high school versus college, they have about the black students about the same number of other race friends in college as they do in high school. So once you account for that difference, college is actually leading to less integration than high schools. And that's because of the wag you end up in the academic credentials.
