Is There a Cause for Atherosclerosis Plaques?
As you get older and your repair system started to fall to bits, the rate of damage is greater than the rate of repair. And this is the reason why plaques only happen in arteries. These arteries have a blood pressure of say, on average, 100 millimeters of mercury. Your veins, it's about a 30th of that. So the amount of biomechanical stresses on an endothelial cell in the arteries is very high and in the veins, it’s very low.
