Are You at Risk of Merging With a Client?
Sometimes I'll be working with someone and something will happen in my life that means I can no longer work with that client because I'm at risk of merging with them. It's so important for therapists to have access to therapists and access to supervisors. And there've been times that I've cried with clients in sessions. Not because I can't regulate myself, but because it feels appropriate and authentic. Sometimes actually what clients need is to see that we are vulnerable and available. Often that's what they've come to find is someone who is available.
