What Is Externalism in Philosophy of Language?
Theory of externalism in philosophy of language is a natural and important place to look for making some progress. When an ordinary person says, for example, that a brutus killed caesar, we want to understand them as saying something about these two historical figures. This isn't always the right approach for figuring out why things represent the way they do. The suggestion is looking inside the head of the speaker may not be the best way to answer that question. And if you think those are the facts that make your thoughts about the people that they're talking about, it's just a mistake to try to explain this away with other ideas.
