The Bizork or Hypothesis: A Dark Version of the Von Neumann Probe
The von Neumann probe is a robot that arrives in a destination solar system, scans around it while latching onto some asteroid or moon and extracting resources from it to build facilities. This became a popular notion as we sent folks to the moon but only briefly and we turned to robot missions for decades after. The absence of any of these von Neumann probes says the Halt-Tiploc conjecture strongly counter-indicated any civilization having existed in this galaxy before us. Which takes us to the Bizork or Hypothesis where someone has intentionally or accidentally unleashed probes on the galaxy that attack other spaceships or even other primitive planets.
