Is It a Lawrence Scholar, or a James Joyce Scholar?

I'm not actually a Lawrence scholar at all, in fact I wouldn't have anything scholarly to say about this book. The first novel I read was Sons and Lovers which is still similar to the Martin's Bill - it's considered as portrait of an artist. It kind of makes writers like Henry James or Ian Forster seem a little bit out of step with their time because Virginia Wolf and Bruce and Joyce are so avant-garde. He also suffers from people feel like he can be a little bit hectoring and a little bit demanding for people who are trying to push back on some of his notions of women.
