German leaders could not ignore the British guarantee, or French assurances that it would honor its alliance commitments to Poland. The eventual non-aggression pact with the Soviet Union was critical for a German war with Britain and France. By securing access to the Soviet economy and the economy's eastern Europe by conquering Poland, some of those problems would be solved.
