How to Write a Short Story

I set out to learn to write fiction 20 years ago roughly speaking and I went to a class in Minneapolis where they have writers teaching writers. Hillary Mantell's books about Thomas Cromwell are very hot now well when I read Hillary Mantell or Mavis Gallauda was reading this one or writes a short story is great short story I read these  and I think wow what is it that she's doing that makes this so successful for me as a reader.
