SARS-1 - The Chimeric Spike and the Full Spike
SARS-2 has been found in the deer population on the east coast. It's found in minks, in pets, cats. So what would happen if SARS were to get into a host population that has some kind of surbico virus like costas? We took the same approach of making a chimeric spike, but we changed the background. Now it's a SARS-CoV-2 spike and we're replacing its receptor binding domain with costa. Ultimately, what we'll test with it later in the last figure of the paper is how well this chimeric spike is resistant to vaccines and therapeutics.
