The Future of CSAM
If Apple ever did want to roll out CSAM, they can have this end-to-end encryption with CSAM by checking checksums of photos. That would definitely be possible if they wanted to do that scanning server side. The thing is, with photos, what they claim to save is the raw byte checksum of the photo or video. Even a very slight modification of the original file is going to change the rawbyte checksum of that photo and make it completely different.
