The International Energy Agency Says There Cann't Be New Oil and Gas Projects
John Gummer, also known as Lord Deeban, was a British environment minister in the 1990s. We now chair the Climate Change Committee which independently scrutinises UK climate policy. I do think that the absolute necessity of winning the war in Ukraine may mean that we have to produce our own fossil fuels when we need them. The International Energy Agency has been very clear that we can't have new exploration and yet we see tax breaks for companies getting new licences or exploring new places that they hadn't been before. And the second thing is if we are going to produce it we must be able to do so in the most environmentally friendly way possible.
