In 1909, a trout hatchery in Ohio is convinced their fish are suffering from an outbreak of cancer. Dr. David Maureen tells them feed the fish chopped up pigs hearts and livers; they will go away. In 1917, Maureen goes to the Cleveland School Board and says, I'd like to do an experiment. And it is in Akron that we get the first definitive proof that if you give iodine to people, Goiter disappears.
