The leader of Russia, Vladimir Putin has been obsessed with restoring his country's links to the soviet empire. He was a colonel serving in east germany when he saw the collapse of this great empire that he had given his life to. The leaders of georgia and ukrane have called on nato to give membership action plans to both countries. Nato gave an open door to these two nations because they were led by demand.
