Mealworms Could Be the Future of Plastic Recycling
Kevin Solomon is a chemical and biomolecular engineer who hopes mealworms are part of the future of plastic recycling. Traditional recycling uses high heat to break down plastics' chemical bonds, but this only works well for clean plastic. Your leftover food becomes part of the plastic if it's heated up. So ultimately even though you put it in the recycling bin at some point, a decision is made and it goes to the landfill.
