The Death of the Big Toe

The plague of marseilles had taken the lives of over 100 thousand people in the region. In 19 94, one of those pits was dug back up inside and archaeologists found a bronze pin still protruding from the bone of the big toe. For a very long time, it was strongly believed that the soul and the body were two separate things loosely tied together. This ancient belief finally found expression in a philosophy called vitalism.
