The Rise of the Royalty in France
There were transformations in the way that people were conducting labor. People were being hired for more and more wage labor. Now this presented an opportunity for the royalty to cash in on these changes. But even a little tax for people who are extremely poor, a largely peasant population in rural France, they're going to be greatly affected by that tax. And so there was a lot of resistance to it.
