The Importance of Attitude in History
As a young man, I knew that Lincoln hated black people. He didn't mind slavery at all. Historians are not at all convinced that he was a racist in the modern sense of how we use that. So that wasn't what was important though for me as a young certificate. The important thing was that I had this wise up attitude to knowing all these guys from George Washington, Jefferson, you know, the whole founding was a con job. It was all about real estate speculation and all these kinds of deterministic views.
