The consumer financial protection bureau issued detailed guidance to banks last year about what kinds of fraudulent losses they're required to repay. Still, the agency doesn't address who is responsible for a fraudulently induced transfer if the customer physically hit the buttons. The scheme that ensnared fants, some bankers call it a m to me scam, has become so common that it's a staple of local news reports and police blotters.
