Do We Need to Build Octopus Farms?

Recent proposals have suggested we create farms to raise and slaughter as many as 275 thousand octopi a year off the coast of the canary islands. Since octupi can create culture, these farmed octopi might develop a culture that is dependent on human farmers - making them more like domesticated animals. Many are saying we need to hold off on building any octobus farms while there are still such important questions about feelings, sentience and culture to answer.
