I try and play out the absolute hypothetical worst scenario. One of them is I die. Then I won't be worried about it, because I'll be dead. It won't affect me. And when you look at people for subjective well-being in poor countries, there's often people who are happier on average than us in the US. So if we can just simply break the connection of the underlying assumption that whatever happens, whether it's the dollar, the yen, or AI takes over the world, then my 401k doesn't matter too much.
