Of the 12 women I spoke to, only one did not have a child after all of this. One stopped for two years before being ready to start again at a new clinic. Being a fertility patient is both a privilege and a trial; it involves submission and control. In the end, the central ambivalence for some of the patients is a simple and powerful one, anger and gratitude.
