And alexander was hailed as a visionary leader, a truly great father to his people. He was the czar liberator. But discord began to creep in when the expectations created by this era of great reform started to go unmet. When middle class intellectuals who gathered in the zim were let down by how little power they actually had. They found the state constantly skirting the rule of law, undermining it and outright ignoring it.
