Huey Long, the Former Governor of Louisiana
Huey Long was a godlike figure in Louisiana politics. He sold his brand of populism so effectively that he became a national force. Huey Long brought the whole state of Louisiana under the control of his political machine. In 1935, he was the first ever U.S. senator to be assassinated while in office.
