The Intolerance of Religion in the City
Deme's parents hadn't been over strict with their children when it came to religion. She says soon the atmosphere of intolerance in the city was spilling over into life at home. The teachers insisted that we cover up, even though we were only in our firs iar when ou inta. If you came to class without a hijab, you were punished and made to stand in front of the blackboard on one foot. R we were also forbidden to go out alone without a male escort, even just to a neighbor's house.
