Cornet's Synod on the Freedom of Conscience
Cornet was invited to participate in public disputations, still carried out in the style of mediaeval scholasticism. The magistrates who organized these disputes were not thereby accepting his ideas about open debate to the contrary. He was a true heir of erasmus, using carefully crafted rhetoric in the cause of christian peace. A powerful work dedicated to that ideal is his synod on the freedom of conscience.
