Fred Hampton was a leader of the Chicago-based Rainbow Coalition. He organized free breakfast for children, free medical research and health clinics that served hundreds each day. The organization also sought to actively replace the state in these meaningful ways. It had a theory that was supported by physical means; it said not just is the state a legitimate force of power but we have to act against it.
