The Importance of Language in a Book

If you have all the time in the world and you're happy to make the language for the book, knowing that maybe only one out of a million people will even care, then that's fine. If your main priority is the book and not so much the languages, then having the focus on the language may stop you from moving on. DJ Cherry does a really good job conceiving of alien languages and mentalities; she even managed to get away with an entire series of sci-fi novels about a linguist dealing with aliens.
