Is It a Cultural Issue?
Benefits fraud is the one area of economic crime where we put a massive amount of effort into. Yet it gets so little attention, why? Is it because financial matters are dry and unsexy? There's also a focus on small scale fraud, like benefit fraud,. for instance. Why large scale fraud is considered part o the course? The i have my own view. My personal view is that it its absolutely a cultural issue. For some reason we just see certain types of crime committed by certain types of people as fundamentally worse than others. It purely comes down to a matter of policy, which is that h m r c do not treat tax fraud, in the main, as a criminal
