There is an optimistic vision for it, but there's a potentially really huge pessimistic downside. It may also be the case that these types of capabilities don't need to be restricted to what we would now think of as a single organization. We see lots of enthusiasm in various open source communities for building new and more productive ways of collaborating at scale. In some ways, perhaps these capabilities would actually enable the kind of large scale distributed collaboration that to some extent the internet has enabled.
