In 19 24, a group of boys in wales were drawn to a sweet shop filled with jars of bright candies. They couldn't resist the liquorish boot laces, the pear drops and tonsel ticklers. In America they are sometimes called jaw breakers - huge, round and hard; stop your gob gob being a slang word for mouth. For someone without much money, like a young boy, they are desirable because they can last all day.
