Do You Think There's a Cyclic Pattern in Social Manipulation?

Do you think that there's this cyclical pattern where the amount of social manipulation or social desirability bias goes up and down? Or do you think it's more like a general straight line trend? Which one do you think is closer to the truth? Yeah, cyclical makes a lot more sense. We know in general from the history of religion that we go through long cycles of fanaticism and apathy. You can see this throughout the whole history of every major religion that I know of.
