The Beer Block: What It Is and How It Works

The beer block is used for distal upper extremity procedures, and you don't need an ultrasound to do it. A double pneumatic tourniquet is placed on the arm after an IV is started in the hand. After 45 minutes or potentially sooner, pain will develop at which point the proximal cuff is deflated.
