Jaha'i MacMeth's family did not accept that she was dead. The fundamental conflict circles around different notions of death. Her parents said, you know, wait a minute, why is she dead? New Jersey adopted a version of the definition of death that was laid out in the 80s.
Death used to be fairly self-evident, but new technologies have forced us to ask: When is someone actually dead? And now, new research is raising a further question: Could death someday be reversible?
