The researchers used a static image of an ice cube, mid-melt. They found that people who see a static image tend to pick a frame farther forward in time. Overall, the trend is in the direction of melting, which is pretty surprising because we might have just found nothing in this case, right? We may have just found that when you show someone just a picture of an ice Cube, there's just no privileged direction one way or the other.
